THREE HURRICANES ACTIVE AS NEW THREAT EMERGES IN ATLANTIC

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is tracking three active tropical cyclones in the Atlantic basin, with a potential fourth system on the horizon, officials said Monday.

Hurricane Kirk in the north-central Atlantic and Hurricane Leslie in the central tropical Atlantic continue to churn, while newly formed Hurricane Milton threatens the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Adding to the busy tropical outlook, the Department of Disaster Management is closely monitoring an area off the African coast. A tropical wave expected to move off the west coast of Africa on Tuesday could enter conditions favourable for development.

The NHC’s tropical weather outlook indicates the system has a 30% chance of formation over the next seven days. It’s projected to move near or over the Cabo Verde Islands by Thursday or early Friday.

“Environmental conditions appear marginally favourable for some slow development of this system while it moves westward or west-northwestward across the eastern tropical Atlantic,” the NHC stated.
