Residents in the British Virgin Islands are under a flash flood watch today, Thursday, October 31, due to expected heavy rainfall.
The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services have issued the alert for low-lying and flood-prone areas, advising residents to be prepared for moderate to major flooding.
A developing low-pressure system over or near the territory is forecasted to produce up to 4 to 6 inches of rain over a 24-hour period, making flash flooding a serious possibility. Those in flood-prone areas are encouraged to take precautions to safeguard their homes and belongings and to be ready to move to higher ground if conditions worsen.
In addition to heavy rainfall, today’s weather forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and a high chance of rain, at approximately 70%. Winds are expected to blow from the east-northeast at speeds of 17 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 48 mph. The rough conditions also extend to the seas, with wave heights ranging from 5 to 9 feet, prompting a high surf advisory for the territory’s surrounding water.
Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and heed any warnings as the day progresses, as conditions could rapidly change.
