Liz Truss will be the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after emerging victorious from the Conservative Party’s summer election which pitted her against former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak.
Out of approximately 142,000 votes cast by Conservative Party members, Truss secured 81,000 of those votes.
Though this did bring her the victory, it has been noted as one of the lowest portions received by any UK leader in recent history.
Truss is expected to be formally appointed as prime minister by Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday afternoon.
She will be the third woman in history to serve as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and also the third to assume Prime Ministership in the UK in absence of a National General Election.
Truss will lead the Conservative party into 2024 when the United Kingdom is due for its next national elections.
Truss succeeds Boris Johnson in this post.
During the Tory Election, Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson served as caretaker leader of the UK.
He is expected to tender his official resignation ahead of Truss being appointed on Tuesday.
