The Right Honourable Lord Goldsmith MP has been appointed as the new Minister of State for Overseas Territories, Commonwealth, Energy, Climate & Environment.
This was confirmed in a statement moments ago by the Office of the Governor.
The statement said, “Lord Goldsmith succeeds the Rt Hon Jesse Norman MP as Minister for Overseas Territories, who has been appointed as a Minister in the Department for Transport.”
Goldsmith previously served as Minister of State and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO); Minister for Pacific and the Environment at FCDO and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra); Minister of State in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, the Department for International Development (DFID) and Defra; and Minister of State in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, the Department for International Development (DFID) and Defra.
Prior to the aforementioned appointments which spanned from 2020 to 2022, Goldsmith served as Minister of State at Defra and at DFID from 10 September 2019 to 13 February 2020 and as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at Defra and at DFID from 27 July 2019 to 10 September 2019.
It is unclear whether Goldsmith will be making a visit to the BVI soon, in light of the recent cancellation of his predecessor Jesse Norman, who had to cancel his October 27 visit to the BVI following his reassignment.
