Brazilian football legend Pelé has died at the age of 82.
The three-time world cup winner is the only football player to achieve such a feat which made him football’s first global icon.
Late last month Pelé was admitted to a hospital in São Paulo for a respiratory infection and for complications related to colon cancer.
Last week, the hospital said his health had worsened as his cancer progressed.
According to news reports, a statement from Albert Einstein Hospital said the football legend died on Thursday from multiple organ failure due to the progression of colon cancer.
Tributes have been pouring in for the legend.
